A fire destroyed a church causing the roof and walls to collapse Thursday afternoon in Carroll County.

The Clearfield Bible Church, in the 1300 block of Old Westminster Pike, caught fire around 3 p.m., according to Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The only person in the church at the time of the fire was a secretary.

Dozens of firefighters from Carroll and Baltimore counties contained the two-alarm fire in nearly three hours.

Officials said heavy machinery is being brought in to remove debris.

A firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
