Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old who was shot Sunday in Northwest Baltimore.

Around 7:10 p.m., the young girl, whom police identified as Charlee Gamble, was brought into a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the child was shot in the 6000 block of Park Heights Avenue. She was taken to the hospital where she died, according to police, who initially identified the victim as male. Charlee would have turned 3 next month.

Homicide detectives have taken over control of the investigation, which police described as “extremely active.”

Police said the circumstances that led to the child’s death due to the gunshot wound are currently under investigation.
