One woman died while a man and two pets were rescued in a Catonsville house fire early Friday morning, Baltimore County fire officials said.
Firefighters were called at 7:14 a.m. to the 400 block of Westshire Drive for a dwelling fire, which was upgraded to a fire/rescue when they learned that a woman was trapped inside the home.
Amid what fire officials say was an intense fire with heavy smoke conditions, firefighters were able to rescue one man, one dog and one cat. The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was rescued from the back of the house at 7:21 a.m. and brought to a local hospital in critical condition for smoke inhalation, EMS Capt. Leonard Stewart said. Stewart said the animals were sent to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Elkridge.

About 100 personnel — EMS and fire — from Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard counties were on the scene, Stewart said. The fire was contained at 7:49 a.m.
Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but say the house is uninhabitable now.
