Crews will start installing new automated speed cameras in Northeast Baltimore on Monday, the same day city public school students head back to the classroom, according to city officials. But they stopped short of saying when the new cameras will start snapping images of speeding drivers and generating tickets.
The approximate locations are:
- Between the 4500 and 4800 blocks of Hamilton Avenue near Hazelwood Elementary/Middle School;
- Between the 3600 and 3900 blocks of Echodale Avenue between Arts & Ideas Sudbury School and Gardenville Elementary School;
- Between the 5000 and 5300 blocks of Hillen Road near Northwood Elementary School;
- Between the 6000 and 6200 blocks of Belair Road between Glenmount Elementary/Middle School and City Neighbors Charter School.
School zone cameras generate tickets for drivers found to be exceeding the posted speed limit by 12 mph or more, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday. Fines are $40 and do not lead to points against a driver’s license, according to a city transportation department release.
In June, other automated speed cameras went live in some West Baltimore school zones. A map that shows the location of all Baltimore automated cameras, including cameras ticketing trucks in prohibited areas and for red light violations, is available here.
Speed cameras on Roland Avenue in Northwest Baltimore are also getting a small boost — the enforcement area for the cameras will now include the 5600 block of Roland Avenue, expanding the previous enforcement area by one block.
