Wednesday was the last day in which temperatures were expected to top 90 degrees this week, meaning it’s finally time to enjoy the outdoors — if it doesn’t rain that is.

Here are seven things to do in Howard County for the week through Aug. 15.

Be sure to bring an umbrella or raincoat — just in case!

Kick off the weekend a little early with an evening at Merriweather Post Pavilion and sing along with country singer Dierks Bentley. Grab some concessions and enjoy listening to newer hits like “Drunk on a Plane” and classics from his 2005 album “Modern Day Drifter.”

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Chase Rice and Kaitlin Butts open for Bentley on the “Gravel & Gold Tour.” Tickets are available through Ticketmaster starting at $58.35 with fees included.

Sad Summer Festival

1 p.m. Friday

Despite its name, the Sad Summer Festival is another fun way to get a jump on the weekend. Head back to Merriweather Post Pavilion and enjoy, dance and sing along to nine punk-rock and pop-rock bands at the Chrysalis stage. The headliners — emo music staples Mayday Parade and The Maine — are joining the festival for its fifth anniversary.

Doors open at 1 p.m. and the show begins at 2 p.m. Single tickets are $72.90 with fees included.

Stories under the stars

7 p.m. Friday

If you’ve had enough live music for the summer, there is another Friday option for you: listen to a story while basking in the starlight.

Join the award-winning storyteller Dovie Thomason at the Howard County Conservancy for an hourlong program full of nature-themed tales. She has been a storyteller for 40 years, sharing cultural, historical and family stories.

The event is free but registration is required.

Intersectional book club

5 p.m. Friday

The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.

A Friday option for those looking for something to do indoors is Between the Lines: An Intersectional Book Club. The book of the month is “Iron Widow,” and book club goers will have the chance to discuss the book and its meaning and grab snacks and drinks.

The book club meeting is held at Brewing Good Coffee Co. in Savage every second Friday of the month. Registration is optional and dropping in just before 5 p.m. is encouraged so that you’ll have a chance to grab a treat from the coffee counter.

All You Need is Beatles

7 p.m. Saturday

Are you a Beatles lover? This is the concert for you. The Collective Encore in Columbia is hosting “All You Need is Beatles” to transport fans of the Fab Four back in time.

The tribute band features four musicians who have established names in the D.C. music scene. The group will bring the Beatles “iconic songbook to life with electrifying accuracy and joyful performances.”

Witch bells craft workshop

Noon Sunday

Spend Sunday afternoon on Main Street in Old Ellicott City learning about the history of witch bells, and then crafting your very own to hang in your home. Witch bells are used to bring positive energy into your space, and serve as a symbol of protection and prosperity.

The workshop will be at the Bohemian House and tickets are $28.52 with fees included. Ticket sales end just before the workshop, where light snacks will be provided.

Lakefront Live movie night

8:30 p.m. Wednesday

The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.

Join Mr. B — a staple in the Columbia movie scene who has shared movies with the community for almost five decades — on the Columbia Lakefront for a Harry Potter movie night.

Grab your blankets and chairs and get cozy to watch “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” for free as part of the Columbia Association’s Lakefront Live series. You can also bring your own food — just no alcohol — but local restaurant The Collective Offshore will be offering food at the event.

No registration is required for the free event.
