This week the weather has felt almost like fall — almost.
In the coming week, there are numerous activities to get you outside in Howard County as well as some that can be enjoyed in the comfort of air conditioning as a respite from the return of the summer heat.
From trivia to petting reptiles, you are sure to stay busy in the county for the week ending Aug. 29.
Trivia in the loft
7 p.m. Thursday
Head to Dive Bar and Grille in Savage Mill to show off your trivia skills while sipping on discounted drinks and learning new fun facts. Charm City Trivia, a live entertainment company, is hosting a trivia night that features $6 vodka bombs, $6 nachos and $12 buckets of Miller or Yuengling.
The event is free and participants must be 21 years or older.
Wallows concert
6 p.m. Thursday
If sitting back, relaxing and enjoying some alt-rock outdoors is more your speed, you’re in luck. Grab your favorite lawn blanket and head to Merriweather Post Pavilion to see Wallows on tour with BENEE.
The alternative rock band from Los Angeles began releasing songs in 2017, and is now on tour for their newest album “Model.”
Tickets start at $34.80. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Luau party at GameOn
8 p.m. Friday
Close out the weekend with a luau party at GameOn bar and arcade in Columbia. Sip on Tiki-themed cocktails while playing skee ball and other arcade games.
The first 50 guests get a free lei, and the party is from 8 p.m. until GameOn closes at midnight.
Historic farmhouse tours
10 a.m. Saturday
Step into a time capsule and learn about Howard County’s Brown family, who once lived in Mount Pleasant in the 1800s. The Howard County Conservancy’s History Committee will give two tours of the farmhouse and teach visitors about the history of the land and the people who occupied it.
The tours, which take place on two floors, are at 10 and 11 a.m. They are free and registration is required. There are no pets allowed, and anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Jenn’s Uncommon Critters at Manor Hill
12:30 p.m. Sunday
If you’re an animal lover, this is the event for you. Join Jenn to see her uncommon critters at Manor Hill Brewing and learn fascinating facts about reptiles, invertebrates and small mammals. In the hourlong program, the first 30 minutes are show-and-tell; in the second half, participants can touch, hold and even take pictures with some of the critters.
A private bar will be open for parents to enjoy a cold Manor Hill beer during the sessions. The taproom will be open from noon to 7 p.m. and there will be a food truck on site.
There are three sessions: 12:30-1:30 p.m., 2-3 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. From 5-7 p.m., there will be an informal meet and greet with a selection of the animals, and this portion does not require a ticket.
Yoga in the park
6 p.m. Monday
It’s Monday again. Stretch away the stress of the new work week with free yoga in the park. The Columbia Assocation’s yoga instructors will walk participants through an hour of free yoga among the trees at the Chrysalis in Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods.
Tickets are free. Food and drinks are not provided, but participants may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Stand-up comedy night
7 p.m. Wednesday
Push through the midweek slump with some laughs at the stand-up comedy night at Lost Ark Distilling Company in Columbia. Beer Run Comedy, a local duo consisting of Ray Jubela and Steve Tracy,
has performed at numerous comedy clubs, festivals and breweries. Free ticket reservations are required.
