Starting next fall, students who graduate from Carroll Community College and want to go on to get a bachelor’s degree can apply to receive guaranteed admission to McDaniel College.

The schools announced the new dual admissions agreement in a press release Thursday, and said it will provide Carroll Community College students a “clear pathway” to the next level of their education.

“Both of our campuses attract students who seek quality higher education experiences. This new agreement provides an affordable and seamless pathway for our students to access the baccalaureate at a nationally ranked institution,” Carroll Community College President James D. Ball said in the release.

Director of Public Relations for McDaniel College Cheryl Knauer added that the school wants to “make it easy for students who are interested in transferring to McDaniel to be able to attend McDaniel, and receive the support and guidance to be able to make that possible.”

The memorandum of understanding was signed by leadership from both schools during a ceremony at Carroll, the press release said.

“Dual admission agreements take us to the next level in supporting students in the transfer process,” Dr. Rosalie Mince, provost at Carroll Community College, said in a statement.

Students at Carroll Community College who intend to transfer can apply after completing 30 credits worth of classes, according to the release, and will have access to both an advisor from Carroll and an advisor or academic dean from McDaniel to help them throughout the process, Knauer said.

McDaniel will accept up to 64 credits from Carroll, the release said, when a student transfers into the school.

Knauer said the schools previously had several “articulation agreements” that made the process easier for students hoping to apply to specific programs at McDaniel, such as kinesiology or education.

“This was really the next step,” she said, “that would be really for students of any major to be able to have the pathway program.”

Students will be able to begin applying for the dual admissions program in fall 2023, the release said, which it said will encourage “Carroll students to graduate with an associate degree prior to transferring to receive guaranteed admission to McDaniel.”

Students transferring to McDaniel through the dual admission program, Knauer added, will also get a scholarship, though she said the details hadn’t been worked out yet.
