PHILADELPHIA—There’s really nothing quite like the atmosphere at the annual Army-Navy football game. This matchup between the Black Knights and Midshipmen is commonly known as one of the greatest rivalries in sports, and for good reason.

The Baltimore Banner sent me and another photographer, Joe Lamberti, to cover Army-Navy this year at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. After four quarters of back-and-forth scoring the game went to overtime — for the first time in its 123-game history.

Then, it went into double overtime.

At one point it looked like Navy might be able to pull off a win, but then fullback Anton Hall Jr. gave up a crucial goal-line fumble that was recovered by Army. After that, the Black Knights just needed a field goal and they got it to win 20-17.

Navy currently leads Army in total wins, 62-54-7. And good news for those of you who hope to see the game in person: the game will finally be returning to M&T Bank Stadium in 2025.
