Home to over 140,000 students and a multitude of colleges and universities, Baltimore creates a diverse cultural landscape that makes it an ideal place to live, learn, and work. The Baltimore Collegetown Network brings together 12 of those colleges and universities into a consortium that benefits each school and the region as a whole. For over 25 years, Collegetown’s mission has been to attract, engage, and retain students and alumni to the Greater Baltimore region.
Collegetown’s Baltimore Look Book invites a closer look into the city’s charms through the eyes of college students as they experience their unique Baltimore. From inspiring arts to unexpected tastes and active days to lively nights, Baltimore has opportunities around every corner. Dive deep into the hidden gems and favorite spots of each student, and uncover a new destination within Charm City to explore. The Look Book features students from Collegetown’s member institutions: Community College of Baltimore County, Coppin State University, Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University Maryland, Maryland Institute College of Art, Morgan State University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Towson University, the University of Baltimore, UMBC, and University of Maryland, Baltimore
Declan, an animation design alum from MICA, walks through the historic architecture nestled within the heart of the city, and shares his perspective: “There are so many amazing communities and amazing things going on here that you don’t really find until you’re here. It’s when you discover those secrets that you fall in love with the city. I wish I had known that this city was going to feel more like home than anywhere else I had ever been.”
Shanthi, who majored in fashion design at Johns Hopkins University, explains that Baltimore helped launch her fashion enterprise and supported her entrepreneurial spirit. “Everyone in Baltimore truly does want to be there for one another,” says Shanthi. “The amount of support I not only got from my college but also from the neighborhoods and small businesses around me is truly something I don’t think I could have gotten anywhere else. My passion for entrepreneurism would not have been at the level that it is without Baltimore’s role in it.”
“This is a city that has many different cultures,” remarks Tashana from the Community College of Baltimore County. “It’s like Jamaica, where we say ‘out of many, one people.’ That’s how I feel about Baltimore… Baltimore is a place where you can learn and grow, it’s a great place to live.”
