It’s been three decades since the Baltimore area swept the state boys soccer championships. The drought could end as the 2022 tournament heads to its climax starting Thursday at Loyola University’s Ridley Athletic Complex.

No. 4 Severna Park secured a spot in the Class 4A final Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Blair in Montgomery County.

Owen Muldoon’s tally in the 60th minute was the difference for the Falcons, who will play Prince George’s County Bowie for the state crown, Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the RAC. Senior defender Gavin Simpkins accounted for the other goal for Severna Park, which advanced to its state final since 2017.

No. 10 Centennial will play in the 3A final after a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over James M. Bennett at Crofton Friday evening.

Trailing 1-0 after 40 minutes, the Howard County school got tallies from Riley Senisi and Kodee Karcher in the final 40 minutes to punch its ticket to Thursday’s title match with Tuscarora, which ended Towson’s run with a 4-0 victory Friday.

Centennial (16-1-1) last won a state title in 1995 (3A). The 2A title match will be an all-area affair as 12th-ranked North Harford and Glenelg won semifinal matches at Gaithersburg in Montgomery County.

Saturday, North Harford got a goal from Jamail Holmes and solid goalkeeping from Michael Lawry to secure its first state championship game-berth with a 1-0 decision over Charles County’s Lackey.

Holmes, a sophomore forward, headed in Ben Wardle’s cross early in the second half. That was all the Hawks (15-2-2) would need as Lawry (six saves) tipped two shots over the crossbar off corner kicks in the closing minutes.

Glenelg will play in its first state final since 1997 after a 2-0 victory over Wicomico County’s Parkside Friday evening. Vaughn Sines and Siji Jolayemi each tallied in the second half for the Gladiators (11-4-1), who lost to Parkside in penalty kicks in last year’s 2A state semifinal round.

No. 15 Fallston will get another chance to end its title drought after a 3-2 victory over Allegany in the 1A state semifinals at Frederick County’s Linganore. Christian Worthington had a hat trick for the Cougars (13-1-3), who will play Brunswick for the state title.

Brunswick from Washington County ended Perryville’s season with a 1-0 decision. Chase Malone’s goal in the 37th minute was the difference. Perryville finished 11-3-1.

Fallston last won a state title in 1992 (1A). Saturday will mark the Cougars’ ninth attempt to end their championship wait.

The area hasn’t swept the four state classifications since 1999 when Dulaney shared the 4A title (with Montgomery County’s Churchill), and Howard County squads River Hill (3A), Mount Hebron (2A) and Oakland Mills (1A) won outright.
