Ravens first-round pick Nate Wiggins won’t be out long.
After an explosive start to his career as a Raven, with three pass breakups in the opening drive of his first preseason game, the cornerback left the game with a shoulder injury. He made a tackle on a third-down stop against the Philadelphia Eagles before running to the medical tent. He went to the locker room soon after and did not return.
Coach John Harbaugh assuaged any worries about the young talent when he announced Sunday that Wiggins’ injury is not serious.
“He has the same one that I got last week on the water slide [wet-ball fumble recovery drill]. Look at my movement,” Harbaugh joked, waving his arm around. He added that he’s just one of those guys who comes back quickly, but he can’t expect Wiggins to be as fast a healer as he is.
Harbaugh did not provide a timeline for Wiggins’ return.
Before the preseason game, Wiggins mostly practiced with the backups but rotated in occasionally with the starters. He has shown his speed in training camp and in the game, and he made three tackles in addition to his three pass breakups. He was not at practice Sunday.

The Ravens open the season in three weeks and four days with a rematch of the AFC championship against the Kansas City Chiefs.
They suffered other injuries in Friday’s preseason game and are waiting for other players to return from injuries suffered at camp or minicamp. They are slowly ramping up other players. Here are updates from Harbaugh on the other players.
S Kyle Hamilton: The secondary had another near miss when the Pro Bowl safety went down during practice Sunday. Trainers rushed to him. After taking a look at his left leg, they helped him up, and he walked off the field without assistance. He left practice shortly after.
A hush stole over the crowd while Hamilton was down. Injuries are never great, but this one had added significance in that it was one of the Ravens’ most important players lying on the ground.
By the time Harbaugh stepped to the podium, he didn’t seem concerned. Although the Ravens will continue to run tests tonight and tomorrow, Harbaugh said, Hamilton’s leg “looks stable, looks good.”
“First indications are that he’s fine,” Harbaugh said.
WR Rashod Bateman: Bateman hasn’t practiced since leaving Monday’s workout with an apparent injury to his midsection, but Harbaugh said he’s expected to return “real soon. I don’t want to speak for him, but I think he’s right there.”
CB Arthur Maulet: Harbaugh indicated the slot corner’s arthroscopic knee surgery could sideline him for the “first couple weeks” of the season.
OLB David Ojabo: The third-year outside linebacker, who tore his ACL last season, has been cleared to practice since the start of camp but was not cleared to play in Friday’s game.
Still, Harbaugh said he expects Ojabo to play in a preseason game, “but that’s up to the doctors. They decide that. They just didn’t clear him for this game, but I’m anticipating he will be. But we’ll see. He practiced full speed today ... [and] looked pretty good.”
OLB Adisa Isaac: The third-round pick remains limited in practice as his workload ramps up, but he’s taken part in 11-on-11 action. Isaac, who missed most of the team’s offseason workouts and several weeks of camp with a lingering hamstring injury, showed good burst Sunday.
“You can see his speed,” Harbaugh said. “He looks big out there. So, yeah, I’m excited to have him back out there. I know nobody’s more excited than he is. It’s hard to come in, you’re a rookie, and you’re on the shelf for all these months. That’s tough, so he’s really excited to be back.
CB T.J. Tampa: The fourth-round pick remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he recovers from sports hernia surgery. Tampa has worked with athletic trainers on the team’s practice fields in recent days, and Harbaugh said he could soon be cleared to participate. “It’s not probably this week,” he said, “but he’s getting close.”
WR Devontez Walker: The fourth-round pick played 19 offensive snaps and earned just one target Friday, but Harbaugh said he’s been limited by a rib injury. “It should be good this week if nothing else happens,” Harbaugh said. “I’d like to see him get out there and take a lot more reps and really see what he can do.”
S Sanoussi Kane: The seventh-round draft pick left Friday’s game after a big hit over the middle with a stinger and missed Sunday’s practice. Harbaugh said the rookie would be fine.
RB Rasheen Ali: The fifth-round pick missed practice with a stinger as well, according to Harbaugh. He’s also expected to be fine.
CB Trayvon Mullen: Harbaugh did not address the cornerback, who was out with a shoulder injury for about two weeks. But Mullen made his return Sunday.
LB Chris Board: Board left the preseason game early to be evaluated for a concussion and did not practice Sunday.
