CINCINNATI — The NFL held a moment of appreciation before Sunday’s Ravens-Cincinnati Bengals game here Sunday to honor Bills safety Damar Hamlin and the medical team that helped keep him alive after he collapsed Monday night.
Shortly before kickoff, the Bengals’ public-address announcer asked fans to applaud in recognition of Hamlin and first responders. Players on both teams wore shirts reading “LOVE FOR DAMAR” with his jersey No. 3 emblazoned in the middle. The numeral 3 in the 30-yard-line markers is also outlined in blue on the field at at Paycor Stadium to honor Hamlin.

Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle early in the game, remains hospitalized at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Originally sedated and intubated, Hamlin has improved and was able to communicate with teammates this week. He also thanked fans for their support.
Bengals fans gave Tee Higgins, the wide receiver who Hamlin tackled prior to collapsing, a loud ovation after his first catch of the game. Higgins was the target of criticism on social media during the week, and said he struggled in the aftermath of the incident but felt better after hearing Hamlin was improving.

In Buffalo, Bills running back Nyheim Hines opened the game with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Teammates celebrated by holding three fingers in the air in honor of Hamlin.
