Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar was designated to return from injured reserve Monday, bringing him one step closer in his recovery from a broken arm he suffered in Week 12.

The Ravens, who play the Cleveland Browns on Saturday in their regular-season finale, now have 21 days to activate Kolar. If he’s unavailable in Week 18, he could be ready for the Ravens’ playoff opener next weekend.

“Having Charlie back is good,” coach John Harbaugh said. “This was kind of the target game, right when it happened. Usually when you have a break like that, it’s pretty predictable ... so we’ll see how he looks this week. Hopefully, he’s feeling good and ready to go.”

Kolar is the Ravens’ top in-line blocking tight end and also has nine catches for 131 yards and a touchdown this season. He averaged nearly 20 offensive snaps per game through Week 12 and was also among the Ravens’ most used special teams players.

Tight end Mark Andrews said on “The Pat McAfee Show” last week that Kolar broke his forearm after running back Derrick Henry ran into him during the Ravens’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Kolar still finished the game with a season-high 32 offensive snaps.

In addition to Kolar’s return, the Ravens also got back wide receiver Nelson Agholor after he missed two games with a concussion suffered in the New York Giants game.

While the Ravens were down five other players Monday, there’s hope more will return.

Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (hamstring) has been out since Dec. 15 when a soft-tissue injury cropped up before the Giants game. Running back Justice Hill (concussion) was injured the following game, a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 21, and running back Rasheen Ali (hip) was injured in the Christmas Day victory over the Houston Texans.

Left guard Patrick Mekari and left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who appeared to make it through the Texans game healthy, were both missing at practice. Harbaugh said Monday that Mekari and Stanley are dealing with flu-like symptoms, and he hopes to get them back for Tuesday’s practice. He also said that Hill was kept out of practice because of illness, not his concussion.

“Justice is just sick, so he’ll play [Saturday],” Harbaugh said.
