Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and inside linebacker Roquan Smith were fined for unnecessary roughness in their Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL announced Saturday.
Oweh was fined $20,050 for a fourth-quarter tackle of Isiah Pacheco in which he appeared to hit the Chiefs running back in his side with the crown of his helmet. Oweh was not flagged on the play.
Smith was fined $16,883 for a first-quarter horse collar tackle of Pacheco, which the All-Pro selection was penalized for.
Kansas City tight end Peyton Hendershot, who was not active for the season opener, was fined $5,472 for his role in a sideline scuffle with Smith after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was knocked to the ground in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs were also fined $100,000 as an organization, according to NFL Network.
Ahead of Sunday’s home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Ravens elevated practice squad running back John Kelly and cornerback Ka’dar Hollman for the second straight game. Kelly played just six snaps against Kansas City, all on special teams, while Hollman played 21, all on special teams.
The Ravens’ decision not to promote a defensive lineman or outside linebacker from the practice squad could be a good sign for outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy’s availability. Van Noy (eye) practiced just once this week, as a limited participant Friday, after fracturing an orbital bone in Week 1. But he said after practice Friday that he was optimistic he could play against Las Vegas.
