On Zay Flowers’ first touchdown of the season will be memorable for more than one reason.
After hauling in an 8-yard score on the Ravens’ first drive after halftime, Flowers performed Jacoby Jones’ signature celebration. Jones, who passed away in July, was honored before Sunday’s game along with late offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris. Jones’ mother and son, Jacoby Jr., were in attendance.
In his nine-year NFL career, Jones showed off multiple iterations of the dance move, known as the Choppa City Juke, but it typically ended with the same flourish, which Flowers mimicked in a clear nod to the former wide receiver and returner. Jones got to dance twice in Super Bowl XLVII, when he scored touchdowns on both a reception and a kickoff. The Ravens played an emotional video tribute for Jones before the game.
Flowers, meanwhile, has quickly established himself as the Ravens’ top wideout through the first two games of the season. His touchdown grab was his seventh reception of the day, pushing him up to 91 receiving yards.
