No. 5 Howard and eighth-ranked Mercy will play for the Kim Harris bracket title at the All About the Girls Holiday Classic at Forest Park after victories Thursday.
The Magic pulled away from Montgomery County’s Stone Ridge in the fourth quarter for a 51-39 victory. Junior forward Maya Hazelton finished with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Milan Brown added 12 for Mercy (8-2 overall).
Hazelton, a 6-foot-4 transfer from Sparrows Point who’s committed to Virginia Tech University, scored 13 in the final stanza as the IAAM A Conference school outscored Stone Ridge, 21-14. Mercy outscored Stone Ridge, 10-1, in the second quarter to claim a 22-13 halftime.
Corey White finished with 18 points for Stone Ridge, which pulled to 30-25 entering the fourth quarter. Howard continued its unbeaten streak with a 61-39 rout of Charles County’s St. Charles.
Sophomore Meghan Yarnevich poured in 26 points, and Mount St. Mary’s commit Gabby Kennerly added 10 for the Lions (7-0), who led 37-10 at halftime and 55-18 entering the fourth quarter.
Samiyah Nasir contributed 10 points for Howard, which has claimed 47 straight regular season decisions. The Lions play Mercy for the Harris crown, Friday afternoon at 2:30 at Forest Park.
No. 9 Forest Park and 13th-ranked Old Mill will play for the Tracy Carrington title Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Patriots topped North Point from Charles County, 54-34, while the Foresters held off Montgomery County’s Churchill, 42-40.
Freshman guard NaJae Malik-El scored a game-high 14 points and Aliyah Carroll added 10 for the undefeated Foresters (7-0). Forest Park outscored Churchill, 15-6, in the third quarter to wipe out a 21-18 halftime deficit.
Old Mill established a 19-5 first half lead and never looked back against North Point.
Sophomore guard/forward Jemirah Brown scored 13 points, and Amani Watts finished with 12 for the Patriots (3-3).
Six other bracket titles will feature local teams Friday. Catonsville hosts Chesapeake-Anne Arundel for the Antonio Johnson championship. Annapolis and Maryvale Prep vie for the Chontell Manns crown at New Town.
At Concordia Prep, Severna Park and Roland Park Country will play for the Garon Everette championship, while Harford County programs John Carroll and defending Class 2A state champ Fallston meet for the Johnny Mack title. Atholton and Meade will contend for the Cornelius Scott crown, and Dulaney will play host Concordia for the James Henderson crown Friday evening.
Defending Class 4A state champ and 11th-ranked Western will play Prince George’s County’s Oxon Hill for the Joe Rosendale championship at Forest Park late Friday afternoon. New Town hosts Henry A. Wise from Prince George’s in the James Nichols final.
