Danielle Allentuck covers the Orioles for The Baltimore Banner. She previously reported on the Rockies for the Denver Gazette for two seasons and general assignments for The New York Times as part of its fellowship program, where she wrote about everything from a sidearm pitching community to Simone Biles’ recording-breaking skills. She had internships at USA Today, The Buffalo News and NBC Olympics and traveled to Siberia in 2019 to cover the World University Games. She’s won awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors and the International Press Association (AIPS) and is an active member of the Association for Women in Sports Media. A Maryland native, Danielle grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from Ithaca College.
“You look at it as an opportunity,” Eflin said. “We have an opportunity to right the ship tomorrow and we are going to show up prepared and ready to go.”
Cowser went to see the show on Sept. 23 during the Orioles’ off day in New York prior to what would be a pivotal Yankees series. The next day, the Orioles claimed their playoff spot.
Ripken, a Hall of Famer who played all 21 of his major league seasons with the Orioles, purchased the Utica Blue Sox in 2001 and moved them to Aberdeen, his hometown.
“We are going to get him ready for 2025,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “It’s disappointing. It’s tough. He’s so talented and a huge part of our rotation this year and going forward.”
The Orioles are guaranteed at least the third wild card spot but are in position to secure the top spot and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
