A 7-year-old girl who was shot Saturday at Mondawmin Mall is expected to survive, Baltimore Police said Monday.

Police said the child is no longer critical and is now considered “stable,” though they did not provide specifics on her condition.

The child was struck twice in the upper body as she and her mother walked through the mall. An altercation erupted as two groups of people were walking toward each other on the first floor of the mall, with multiple shots fired.

The person who shot the girl fled the scene, officials said at a Saturday briefing.

Mayor Brandon Scott took to social media Sunday to further express discontent about the shooting, asking the perpetrator to turn himself in.

“She was shot because someone’s son can’t solve his issues without using a gun and cowardly opening fire in a mall full of people,” Scott wrote. “We will find them but we shouldn’t have to. I don’t care if it’s your son, cousin, nephew or uncle. Tell them to turn themselves in.”

Police said they expect to have a description, photos and perhaps video of the gunman to release to the public soon.
