Baltimore Police on Wednesday confirmed the identities of the woman and baby who were found dead in a home in West Baltimore earlier this week as a mother and a baby boy.

The woman was 32-year-old Ashley Shaw, and the baby, August Shaw, had just turned one. The two were found dead in a home in the 1800 block of McCulloh Street on Tuesday morning.

Baltimore Police Department spokeswoman Niki Fennoy said police were called out just before 9 a.m. Feb. 13 to the address in West Baltimore. Fennoy said neighbors had complained of a smell.

Fennoy said it was too early to discuss any circumstances around the death but said there were “no apparent signs of foul play” or signs of trauma in either the woman’s death or the baby’s death.

Ashley Shaw was in a state of decomposition, and both of the bodies have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies, Fennoy said.
