A 13-year-old girl is in “grave condition” after being shot while standing outside a liquor store at the 1400 block of East Fayette Street Monday evening, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said.

Harrison, speaking outside the store, said the girl was “struck once, believably in the head.”

The shooting occurred at 5:19 p.m. in the parking lot of Fayette Liquor Plus at the corner of E. Fayette and N. Caroline streets, where a police car with flashing lights was parked Monday night. The girl did not appear to be the intended target, Harrison said.

Harrison said a person armed with a gun shot into a car parked in the liquor store’s parking lot.

”This perpetrator fired into that vehicle, probably intending to shoot who was in the vehicle, but shot a young person who was standing outside, minding her own business,” Harrison said.

“And now we have a person who is critically injured at the hospital,” he said, adding that the motive is unknown.

Baltimore police are also looking into the possibility of a second victim, Harrison said.

”We just learned of a second victim, who walked into Hopkins hospital with gunshot wounds to his body,” he said. ”Detectives are now working to ascertain if that victim is related to this shooting.”

At the time of the shooting, Harrison said there was a large crowd of people in the liquor store parking lot “watching this unfold, so we know someone knows what happened, and we are asking anyone who knows anything … to call us right away.”
