A crash that killed a woman in Montgomery County early Saturday morning is under investigation by the Maryland Attorney General’s office.
The wreck happened at about 2:25 a.m. around Rockville Pike near Flanders Avenue. The Attorney General’s office said two Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies saw a Dodge sedan speeding north on Rockville Pike. Seconds later, deputies turned on their emergency equipment and tried to find the Dodge, the Attorney General’s office said.
Seconds later, deputies saw a two-car crash involving the Dodge and a Honda sedan near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Twinbrook Parkway.
Investigators said it appears the Dodge and the Honda collided when the Honda turned onto Rockville Pike to head south.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity was not immediately released.
A passenger in the Dodge was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The man driving the Dodge ran from the scene, but deputies caught him a short time later, the Attorney General’s office said.
The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating the crash.
